"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." One cannot argue the significance of Dr. Martin Luther King's monumental contribution towards equality for African Americans that transformed the rights and lives of Black Americans across the U.S. and beyond. What he accomplished in a few years, few could in a lifetime. Today we see the fruit of his labor in the form of thousands of successful African Americans in the fields of education, sports, medicine, politics, etc.
As we commemorate his 93rd birthday, how proud would he be of fearless, confident, successful women like Jasmine Broadnax, who have dared to dream and raise with pride the torch of freedom.. women who have only used their past atrocities to fuel their determination and grit... ones that have not only changed their lives but have made significant contribution to the community and society.
While the ideal world is yet to be reached, many will continue to dream, to fight, to raise their voices until they are heard... to be one... irrespective of race, color, ethnicity or gender.
